This tutorial will show you how to upgrade the router’s firmware. This includes researching, downloading, and installing the router’s firmware. This article is designed for CCNA students, network engineers, and anyone looking to upgrade the Linksys wireless router’s firmware.
Upgrading the router’s firmware is the last solution whenever you experience problems using your Linksys router. For example, if you have configured the Internet connection and you network devices properly, but hosts on your network cannot access the Internet. Then you can choose to upgrade the router firmware in order to resolve this issue.
Read the following instructions in order to upgrade your router’s firmware:
Step 1: Open your favorite web browser application, and enter the IP address 192.168.1.1 in the address field. Then press Enter.
Step 2: In the authentication dialog box, enter the administrator’s username and password. The default values are admin/admin for the username/password. However, on some Linksys router platforms, the default value for the username is the blank and for the password is admin.
Step 3: Click Administration.
Step 4: Click Firmware Upgrade.
Step 5: Click Browse in order to locate and select the firmware file, and then click Open.
Step 6: Click Upgrade and then click Ok in order to start installing the new firmware.
